40. Why was it necessary for Christ to suffer "death "?

Because the justice and truth 1)of God required that satisfaction for our sins could be made in no other way than by the death of the Son of God.2)

1) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen. 2:17

2) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death. crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Heb. 2:9.

* For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. 6:23.
