97. May we not make any image at all?

God may not and cannot be imaged in any way; as for creatures, though they may indeed be imaged, yet God forbids the making or keeping of any likeness of them, either to worship them or to serve God by them.1)


1) Thou shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images. And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water, and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: for thou shalt worship no other god for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Ex

But thus ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars and break own their images, and cut down their groves and burn their graven images with fire. Deut. 7-5

And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place. Deut. 12:3.

Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth. Deut. 16:22.

He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent

that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan 2 Kings 18:4.
